Marriage preparation can help couples discuss communication, faith, family backgrounds, finances, sexuality, conflict, fertility, expectations, and vocation. Yet there is a limit to what any couple can understand before they are actually living those realities as husband and wife.
After the wedding, abstract conversations become concrete.
Schedules collide. Money decisions have consequences. Family relationships change. Prayer habits develop or disappear. Fertility questions become personal. Careers shift. Conflict patterns become clearer. The couple begins discovering the difference between understanding an idea and living it together.
That is why the early years deserve more than a general invitation to contact the parish if something goes wrong.
Accompaniment creates continuity while a couple grows into marriage. It can happen through trusted relationships, periodic check-ins, conversations with other couples, accessible formation, or opportunities to bring real questions into a Catholic environment.
The goal is not to make newlyweds dependent on a ministry. It is to make formation available while habits, expectations, friendships, and patterns of married life are still taking shape.
Marriage Every Day treats these years as active formation, not the empty space between marriage preparation and later marriage enrichment.
What a ministry can do with this
- Identify the questions newly married couples are most likely to encounter after preparation ends.
- Create at least one recurring opportunity for couples in their first few years of marriage to reconnect.
- Invite experienced married couples to become accessible points of relationship rather than waiting for formal mentoring requests.

Where we could go
What would meaningful accompaniment look like if we designed it around the realities newlyweds actually encounter?
